Google Scholar’da Görüntüle — ↗Associate Professor Dr Nilay Şengül views cancer treatment not merely as a medical process, but as a holistic journey undertaken in partnership with the patient. She shapes treatment decisions by jointly evaluating the latest scientific evidence and each patient’s unique tumour and health profile. She places great importance on patient information and the patient’s involvement in the decision-making process; adherence to ethical values and transparent communication are among the fundamental principles of her clinical practice.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nilay Şengül sees patients as a medical oncologist at Istanbul Şişli Memorial Hospital.
As a medical oncologist, she provides drug-based treatment for adult solid tumours, primarily breast, lung, gastrointestinal (gastric, colon, pancreatic), head and neck, urological (kidney, prostate) and gynaecological (ovarian, cervical) cancers.
Medical oncology is the branch of medicine concerned with treating cancer using drug-based approaches such as chemotherapy, immunotherapy, targeted smart drugs and hormonal therapies. It differs from surgical oncology, which removes tumours through surgery, and radiation oncology, which uses radiotherapy; in most patients these approaches are planned together in a multidisciplinary manner.
Suitability is determined by the type and genetic/molecular profile of the tumour. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nilay Şengül tailors treatment decisions to each patient based on the tumour's genetic profiling and current scientific evidence; suitability can therefore only be confirmed following a detailed assessment.
Bringing any previous medical reports, pathology results, imaging studies (CT, MRI, PET) and a list of medications you regularly use will help ensure a faster and more thorough assessment.
